Image credit: Allain Sallez and David Romeuf<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Okay, not a true wallpaper, but certainly <a href=\"http:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap080125.html\" target=\"_blank\">one of my favorite APOD photos<\/a>. Most people hit this site looking for information on <a href=\"https:\/\/astronomy.snjr.net\/blog\/?p=205\" target=\"_blank\">Sphinx Observatory<\/a> (look, I just generated 1000 more hits!) and I&#8217;ve always wondered: why isn&#8217;t the <a href=\"http:\/\/picdumidi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pic du Midi de Bigorre Observatory<\/a> as popular? It&#8217;s also a high-altitude observatory, located in a sufficiently dramatic mountain setting. Snow. Cold. Clear skies. Why does all the attention go to Sphinx?<\/p>\n<p>Just for good measure, I&#8217;m including <a href=\"http:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap111125.html\" target=\"_blank\">a second Pic du Midi image from APOD<\/a>.
